Getting Around Belize

Belize, the only English speaking country in Central America, is a melting pot of People & Culture.  With a population of approximately 360, 000 people, it's easy to see why Belize is a laid back counrty in Central America and is increasing becoming a travel hotspot.

Belize is unlike many other travel hotspots in the world, though.  Despite having only one International Airport (BZE) in the counrty, Belize is actively strenghtening its relationship with various airlines and opening its door allowing more airline into the country and overnight guests.

A visit to Belize can include a stay on the mainland, the island, or a combination of both.  Some visitors book their stay at one destination.  Many other visitors choose to get a taste of Belize and Experience different locations.  If you are coming solely to Maruba ResortJungle Spa®, please be sure to Book Your Airport Transfer before arrival.   A friendly, professional and knowledgeable driver will be there to welcome you and drive you to the resort.  We can also help coordinate land transfers or local flights to other destination in the country.  This email address is being protected from spambots. Other tourist destination includes Caye Caulker, San Pedro (Ambergris Caye), San Ignacio, Placencia, Hopkins.  Traveling to the island - Caye Caulker or San Pedro, Ambergris Caye - from the mainland requires getting a water taxi or a local flight.  There are two water taxi companies and they provide transfers to both Islands / Cayes.  They are Ocean Ferry & San Pedro Express.  Local airlines are Maya Air And Troic Air.

Getting around in Belize can be several hours and not as esy as getting public transportation.  The drive between different mainland destination such as Maruba and Placencia or Hopkins is approximately 3.5 hours plus so it is avisable to get a local flight on Maya Air or Tropic.  Buses in Belize are designed mostly for workers to commute between vilages and districts to Belize City for work.  Plan on having your transfer confirmed before arriving in Belize.
